Photograph New & Interesting Wildlife on Vacation

Play I-Spy on Vacation and Photograph New & Interesting Wildlife that You Find?

One of the things that we love to do is record & learn about the new wildlife that we see. Most of these are when we are on vacation.

Can you find the iguana hiding in this bush?

Photograph Iguana on Vacation

I remember the first time I saw an iguana. I thought they were so fun to watch. Then a friend of ours got one as a pet. He had it so tame it would ride on his shoulder. But of course he had obtained it as a baby.

I was so intrigued with it that I had to have one. We had two iguanas as pets. We had Iggy that lived 13 years and the Paco that lived for 10 year. I could never believe how they would show their personality and they let you know what they wanted.

Finding this iguana on our vacation isn’t new to us but iguanas will always be interesting to us. This one tried to hide camouflaged by the dark branches.

I remember the first time we saw one and fell in love. Our iguana had a short nose and was bright green. If I find my pictures of Iggy or Paco I will post them. It was back in the day that I only had a Commodore computer and no scanner.

A note of warning. A wild iguana can bite. We had one steal a sandwich out of our sons hand on a picnic at Tulum years ago. Iggy our iguana was territorial and got made at my husband for sleeping on the bed during the day. (His sleeping place during the day) and Grabbed onto his arm with his mouth. He didn’t let go. We had to pry his jaw open. He wasn’t hurt by my husband still has a scar. Iggy’s teeth were like razor blades. Always assume a wild animal is wild and unpredictable even when they appear docile or friendly.

This cute animal is called a Coati. I loved this guy. He had a tail like a monkey, paws & a mask like a raccoon & a nose like an ant eater. He was looking for food that had been left by vacationers. We was very agile. He climbed trees and ran along the walls. We had a good time watching him. He finally found some french fries & then got lucky with a rib bone. Both of which he guarded from the birds and quickly devoured.

We were careful to keep him away from our table where we ate. He was cute but wild animals are unpredictable and not worth taking a chance over.

We saw a Mexico Blue Crane or Blue Heron on our walk along a rocky shore. There were also a pod of pelicans. A pod is what a group of pelicans are called. I just learned that. Another little fact for your next trivia game.

Huge Shrimp, Steamed Claims, Oysters on the Half Shell

Off the Las Vegas Strip Dining Huge Shrimp, Steamed Clams & Oysters

Sometimes getting off the strip in Las Vegas you find some true gems. This was one of those outings.

Shrimp cocktail Briggs Oyster Co.

We ate dinner at a fabulous restaurant; Briggs Oyster Co. at the Suncoast Hotel Casino in Las Vegas. I started with a Shrimp Cocktail. It had the biggest shrimp I have even eaten. Following that I had their clam chowder. It was thick and had a good amount of clams in it.  For the main course I had a Caesar shrimp salad. My mom had steamed clams, and a steak dinner.  Everything we had we loved.

We chose to eat at the bar as we could watch all the chefs cooking the meals. That alone was worth going. They had a bar of steaming/boiling pots that they cooked food in. We watched as they opened the oysters for oysters on the half shell. We also watched as they made the sushi rolls.

The service was outstanding. It was a fun night out with great food.

What is an Exotic Vacation?

Riviera Maya Beach Mexico

Exotic vacations need not be what you would normally think. Exotic vacations to me are ones where you have unique experiences or ones that are different, foreign to you or make you feel extra special. That opens up a lot of room for you to have an exotic vacation.

I have been to Venice a couple of times and it was defiantly a unique, different, foreign and memorable experience. I had never seen or experienced anything like it before. Some other exotic vacation experiences I can tell you about are Egypt, a Safari in Africa, canopying & the mud spa in Costa Rica, and even laying in the sun in Mexico.

Talking of Mexico I am preparing to go on my annual Riviera Maya Mexico vacation. This year we have chosen two different resorts. One of them the Secrets Silversands Resort. We chose this resort because we are looking for an exotic vacation. Exotic because it is supposed to be a classy high end luxury resort with a high level of service. I wanted to be spoiled this trip so we will see how this resort measures up to my hopes.

Jelly Fish Stings – Ouch! Avoid Them

While out snorkeling on two different occasions I have swam into stingers. Once we were snorkeling from a boat and I saw these beautiful white floaty things in the water around me. I was so enchanted by their movement. Little did I know that these Beautiful creatures carried such an outcome of pain. I soon learned what a horrible experience it is to be stung. I had red welts on my arms and my legs. I would say it felt like bee stings. As soon as I got on the boat the tour guide put vinegar on them and shaved the area with a credit card. He said that the vinegar stops the sting from spreading toxin. The credit card would remove the stingers. He told me not to touch them as it would activate the stings to release the toxins. I was lucky that I didn’t have a bad reaction to them although they hurt like crazy and itched for days. They had me put hydrocortizone ointment on and take Benadryl. For me Ibuprofen and vinegar worked the best for me. It is not an experience I wish to repeat. But last spring while I was snorkeling I started to feel this stinging sensation down the front of my swimming suit and on my stomach where the little sea nettles had gotten caught in my swim suit. It wasn’t as bad as the Jelly Fish but it still stung and bothered me for a couple days. I went directly to the kitchen at the resort and asked them for some vinegar which they were kind enough to give me to put on the welts. I felt an immediate difference. It still took a while to go away but the vinegar and Ibuprofen really helped.

I later talked with a snorkeling tour guide that said I should wear a t-shirt, wetsuit or nylons on my legs and arms to avoid jelly fish. The jelly fish sting when they come in contact with bare skin. So anything that keeps that from happening will help. Some jelly fish have small enough stingers that even the nylon will prevent the stings. When I go snorkeling again especially if I know there are jelly fish in the area or it is the season when they would be in the area I would definitely do what ever I can to avoid these stings. Remember some stings are serious and should be seen by medical professionals.

Rent a Small Used Car for Safety

To start our House Hunting Trip to Mexico we rented a car online from www.economycarrental.com. I can’t say we were disappointed as the price was half of everywhere else. They had arranged a rental from a small local car rental company, Universal Car Rental. The little car we got from them was well used but hey it runs, every things works and it only cost $500 for 15 days. The next closest was $700 for the same time period and ours included the insurance another $400 dollar savings. It was kind of like when we used to rent from “Rent a Wreck” car rental but this one was in good shape with minor scratches.

Rent a Small Used Car in Mexico

We wanted a cheap little car and that is what we got. A small car for tight parking spaces and easy turning, less liability and a car no theft would bother with. No it’s an ok car at a great price and the rental agencies were both extremely helpful and great to work with. It was exactly what we were wanting. Being in Mexico on vacation or driving here you are better off not showing off a nice new car especially if you are going away from the city although crime is not bad on this side of Mexico. We were really It glad of the little car when we went down roads. It allowed easier passing on narrow roads and we could do a u-turn with ease.
